Reveal by Brina Courtney
Shay could be the key to ending a war that humans don't know exist. Of a race of beings that aren't real, or are they?

Shay Tafford's childhood has been fatherless, filled instead with memories of speaking to the dead. She is forced to hide her unique ability from those living around her. That's why it's been comforting to have Jeremy, a child ghost, as her confidante. But recently he's been absent, perhaps lost as her father is. When Shay meets Hugh, the guy she's had a crush on for weeks, and finds he can speak to ghosts too she's just starting to find a normalcy in her life.
But as Hugh reveals the truth to Shay, about who she really is and about what it is she can do, he erases all chances she had at a normal existence. Turns out talking to ghosts is just scratching the surface of her genetically engineered gifts. Shay learns she may be part of an age old prophecy that could save the entire race of cryptids. But can she?

Life is hard enough for Shay Tafford, growing up without her father, but it's made more difficult due to the fact that she speaks to the dead; and they speak to her. She is in the dark as to why she has had this talent since her father’s disappearance and now her only comfort Jeremy, a child ghost, has also been taken from her.

Everything changes when Shay meets Hugh, a boy she has had a crush on for weeks, and she finds she can confide in him as he shares her gift.  Her dreams of living the normal life she has longed for are dashed when Hugh reveals that talking to ghosts is just scratching the surface of her genetically engineered talents.  But even more disturbing, Hugh discloses Shay may be the answer to an age old prophecy that could save her true kind. Why I Write: A Guest Post by Brina Courtney

Shay stepped into my world like a ghost. Someone I couldn’t get away from, constantly entering my mind, even when I didn’t want her there. But finally when I started to set some words to paper, things improved. She stopped yelling and just starting talking, slow at first revealing small bits of her story. It took me almost three months to outline and begin the story, Reveal took shape quickly after and I realized I was looking at a series of shorter novels. In the first the set of Cryptid Tales novels there are three books revolving around Shay’s life. Reveal, Capture and the third installment available this fall, Elevate (working title). After Elevate we will delve into Lacey’s story most likely with two or three more novels. Did I ever think I would be writing novels about cryptids? No way! But here I am, absolutely loving my new found secret world. There’s a lot to be covered in the two stories thus far. Identifying a race that technically does and does not exist was difficult, but once complete totally worth the research it took to get it there. I love writing YA SciFi, there’s nothing else to it and I appreciate every single person who takes a chance on my books. You’re risking something every time you read, your emotions and thoughts. So as a writer I thank you.

Cover Reveal: Capture by Brina Courtney

Today I get to reveal the cover for Capture by Brina Courtney in a Blog Blast with other amazing bloggers! I absolutely loved the cover for Reveal, the first book in the Cryptid Tales series, and I just know that you're going to love the cover for Capture!

Without further-ado...

Capture by Brina Courtney is the second book in the Cryptid Tales series. The first book, Reveal, is already out and available for $1.99 at Amazon. Capture will be released March 2012.

Isn't it so pretty? I love the green and how her eyes are smoldering, begging you to approach her. How do you think it compares to Reveal? Reveal is a lot more creepy cool and striking compared to the elegance of Capture. I love both :)

Reveal’s Description: High school senior Shay Tafford leads a less than normal life. Hiding her ability to speak to ghosts from her family and friends is one thing, but discovering there's a beautiful boy named Hugh who has the same gift is an entirely different problem; especially when she's been crushing on him for weeks. Since her life's not already chaotic enough, her only confidante- a boy ghost- has disappeared as thoroughly as her father did twelve years ago. With Hugh's help, Shay must find the answers she needs in order to save the people she loves from disappearing- forever.

You can follow Brina on facebook or twitter for updates on the official release date for Capture.

What do you think of Capture's cover?

Friday Finds #2

It's another Friday, everyone! We're so close to Christmas, I can smell my grandmother's famous Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate!

Since it's Friday, it's time for a Friday Finds post!

Friday Finds is a weekly meme hosted by MizB @ Should Be Reading where you share books you have discovered or heard about during the past week or so.
I present you my FF for this week:

Reveal by Brina Courtney
Published: 16 December 2011

I discovered this book when my good blogger friend Ren from @ Ren's Rambles posted her Review for Reveal. I'm always looking for something new to read all the time, although my TBR pile/list is seemingly endless. So of course, I had to check this book out further on Goodreads (click title and author of book above to be redirected there). After the reading the summary, I already knew that someway, somehow I was going to read this book. Besides, I trust Ren's opinion about Reveal, therefore I know I'm going to get this book eventually. What also drew me to this book was the creepiness of the cover. Those yellow eyes on the girl just mesmerized me. I'm not a big fan of purple, but the contrast with the eyes is amazing.

Before you scurry off (hopefully to add this book to your to-read list), Ren is holding a giveaway of an ecopy of this book. If you're interested in entering her giveaway please click this: Ren's ecopy Giveaway of Reveal. Please read and follow all rules/policies for Ren's giveaway. The Rafflecopter makes it easy to enter, so there is no need to cheat on entries. Ren checks each and every entry and all entries not following rules will be disqualified.

What did you find this week?
