Waiting on Wednesday #18

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine where you share an upcoming release that you're anticipating on reading.

Expected Publication: October 30, 2012

From Goodreads:

Cassandra Caravello is one of Renaissance Venice’s lucky elite: with elegant gowns, sparkling jewels, her own lady’s maid, and a wealthy fiancé, she has everything a girl could desire. Yet ever since her parents’ death, Cassandra has felt trapped, alone in a city of water, where the dark and labyrinthine canals whisper of escape.

When Cass stumbles upon a murdered woman—practically in her own backyard—she’s drawn into a dangerous world of courtesans, killers, and secret societies. Soon, she finds herself falling for Falco, a mysterious artist with a mischievous grin... and a spectacular skill for trouble. Can Cassandra find the murderer, before he finds her? And will she stay true to her fiancé, or succumb to her uncontrollable feelings for Falco?

Beauty, love, romance, and mystery weave together in a stunning novel that’s as seductive and surprising as the city of Venice itself.

Why I'm waiting?

1. The Setting?
I'm not sure what the setting is for this book. It does seem like it's set in the past. Maybe in the time during the Renaissance, perhaps? Don't take my word for it, though. It could possibly be a historical fiction book with the gowns and having a lady's maid and whatnot, but of course I have no clue. Maybe that's the appeal about this book. I was never fond of historical fiction, but I was quite taken with the genre ever since I read A Temptation of Angels by Michelle Zink, The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare and Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers. I have read others, but they have never stuck with me and I've had trouble getting into them. This one seems to be my type and I am very very interested.

2. The Mystery Aspect.
I'm so addicted to the mystery aspect in any novels. Especially when it comes to murder mysterious. I'm always the person wanting to guess who could be the killer! Venom is exactly what I'm talking about. Cass finds a woman murdered!? She tries to find out who killed her and ends up getting sucked into secret societies and such? Yesss! This is definitely my kind of thing. I'm so down for figuring out who the killer is! I'm kind of hoping the killer is reason #3! LOL!!

3. The unnamed fiancé.
I love the fact that Cass is already spoken for. This adds more tension in the book and I sure do LOVE tension. It seems like Cass is being forced into this marriage? Who knows, but I dig that so much. If she's looking for a way out of this soon-to-be-marriage, well, I want to know how she plans to do so. It says she's feeling trapped so I am only assuming here that she is living a miserable life. Plus, who is this guy anyway!? I wonder what he is like and if we'll get more than just a freaking glimpse of him. I hope he's got some dirty little secret that he's hiding from Cass. Of course reason #4 could be a suspect for being the killer and if so then we're all in for a crazy ride!! ;)

4. Falco.
How can I not mention this boy!? I mean, come on. I'm all for the mysterious artist with a lovely smile that puts our MC, Cass, into some trouble. I don't even know him yet and I kind of like him already. Although I have to admit that his name reminds me of a bird. Not a good visual. LOL. But Falco sounds like a really appealing guy and I'm ready to swoon all over him if I have to.

Side comments: If both Mr. Unnamed and Falco are wonderful characters, I'm going to pull out my hair because this means I'll end up either A) picking the wrong Team or B) liking both and end up torn. This is not good because lately, I have been picking the wrong Team and the MC ends up with the guy I don't want her to end up with and it's quite frustrating. True to the story, yes, but very infuriating on my part! Point number two: I'm sure some readers are tired of the same old love triangle we are constantly seeing and I am too, unless it's done fanFREAKINGtastically so I'm hoping Mr. Unnamed is a horrible, wealthy man while Falco is the irresistible creature that I want him to be. Maybe Cass never loved Mr. Unnamed and is being forced to marry him and falls for Falco! :) But if they end up being epically awesome, then I guess I'll have to be torn between the two and I'm totes ok with that! <3

*wishful thinking*

5. Not sure what to title this one sooo, just read on... LOL!
This one reminds me of A Temptation of Angels by Michelle Zink and if you know me or follow me on Twitter, all I've been doing the past month of March is gush about it. So if Venom is anything like it, well, you know that I will be spending the month of this release gushing about this one! :D

What are you waiting on?
