Cover Reveal: Release by M.R. Merrick

I'm super excited to show you the cover for M.R. Merrick's third book in The Protector series! You guys are going to LOVE it :)

Release by M. R. Merrick (The Protector #3)
Expected Publication Date: December 10, 2012

Synopsis:
After uniting the shifters and calling in reinforcements, Chase has to face his toughest challenge yet: learning to control his emotions. But as tensions rise and his powers grow, controlling his emotions becomes the least of his problems.

Terrorized by a multi-shifter who is hell-bent on turning him, Chase questions just how far he’s willing to go to stop his father.  Meanwhile, Tiki’s virtuous nature has placed him in the middle of Vincent’s past, leaving Chase to oppose a senate of vampires and defend a demon he hates.

Trying to balance his friends, his enemies, and his inner demons, Chase is left searching for answers about the Mark, his destiny, and where he can find the next soul piece. Stopping Riley is his top priority, but as more obstacles arise, he finds himself doubting all the decisions he’s made - especially regarding Rayna.

One thing is for certain: Chase has finally realized that he doesn’t know anything. The light doesn’t always quell the darkness, the monsters don’t always stay in the shadows, and the past doesn’t always stay in the past - sometimes, the demons inside are the hardest to fight.

Me: I love the cover of Release! The colors are the striking and the overall cover dark and foreboding.
Doesn't it suit well with the other books?

Let me know what you think!

Of Blood and Bone by Courtney Cole Guest Post + Giveaway

Of Blood and Bone by Courtney Cole
The Minaldi Legacy, #1
Release date: September 16, 2012
Genre and Age Group: (Ex. Fantasy/YA):  Women’s Contemporary/Dark Romance

Love is dangerous…

“I’m a monster, Eva. There is no saving a monster. But I love that you want to try.”
My heart constricts at the expression on his face. He has no hope for himself, so I have to hope for him.

“You’re not a monster,” I argue softly. “You’re a man, Luca. A man like any other, you’re made of blood and bone.”

As a little boy, Luca Minaldi was told he was a monster.
As an adult, he knows it is true.

He lives in Malta, a fairytale-like place filled with sunshine and sea, beauty and secrets. And Luca’s darkest of secrets is the best kept of them all.

Eva Talbot is spending the summer in Malta to finish up her doctoral dissertation. When she meets Luca, a mysterious and handsome shipping tycoon, there is an instant attraction, a disturbing and beautiful energy that she has never felt before. But she senses the darkness that lives within him.

Eva is hired to care for his mother, who suffers from dementia, but it is Luca who Eva will eventually risk everything to save. Her life becomes a swirling chaos of darkness and romance, of secrets and mystery. And the question that emerges will become the most important answer of all.

Can she save Luca from the darkness that plagues him without losing herself?

The answer is a matter of life or death.

Courtney Cole as You’ve Never Seen Her

So, you may know that my Twitter handle is @CourtwritesYA.  The YA, of course, stands for Young Adult.  I’ve written ten books and all of them are YA and NA.  EXCEPT for my newest release, Of Blood and Bone.

What the heck?  Courtney Cole wrote adult fiction??  This seems to be a common question that I’m hearing this past week or two.   And the answer is…. Heck yeah, I did.   Of Blood and Bone contains a LOT of adult content…racy sex, seduction, violence.  There’s even some blood.   You know, the good stuff.  And it is not PG-13 in any way, shape or form.

Why did I do this?   Well.  Simply put… I wanted to.

One day, a couple of years ago, I was watching Dexter (the Showtime series about a serial killer) and for some reason, a storyline popped into my head about a woman who fell in love with a serial killer.  The more I thought about it, the more I tweaked it.  It would be a dark romance, not a thriller.  The MC wouldn’t be a serial killer, but he would be someone with dark issues.  He would be good on the inside, but he would be ‘damaged’ and he would hate himself because of this ’affliction.’ I eventually decided that he would have some sort of a Dr.Jekyll/Mr.Hyde complex.  The story kept evolving.

And eventually Of Blood and Bone was born.  But I didn’t write it right away.  I put it off because it is so not something a YA writer should write. To do it up the right way, it should contain everything that YA shouldn’t.

But with the release of so much darker stuff this year, I decided that now was the time.  And so I wrote it.  And I love it.  In my opinion, it’s the best thing I’ve done so far.  The two things that I hear the most about it are:  “Wow!  I’ve never seen Courtney Cole like that!”  and “It was amazing-- I thought about that book for days after I read it.”  Both things make me smile…because you truly haven’t seen Courtney Cole quite like this.

And a short excerpt (from Eva’s point of view):
“Evangeline,” he says softly, his dark eyes glued to mine. “I’m so sorry about the other night.  I wish I could remember.  I wish I could take it back.”
“I don’t,” I tell him honestly.  “I really don’t.”
He gazes out the window for a scant moment more, seemingly deep in thought, before he crosses the room to me.  He kneels in front of me and looks into my eyes.  In this moment, he is as vulnerable as I’ve ever seen him, as I’ve ever seen anyone. He’s completely open to me, hiding nothing.
I want so desperately to kiss him.
“I can’t,” I tell his dark eyes, praying that I don’t fall into them.  “I want to kiss you right now.  But I can’t. You’re my patient.  There are ethics…”
Luca shakes his head, his hands on my knees and his gaze upon mine.  “You aren’t my doctor, Evangeline.  You’re my friend.  I’m simply talking to a friend who wants to help me tonight.  You’re not licensed to practice medicine in Malta, remember?  So where does that leave your ethics?”
He smiles wolfishly and waits without moving.  He’s offering himself to me.  I know that.  And it is against his better judgment. He has told me that, as well.  Yet here he is, on his knees in front of me.
I suck in a breath and inhale the air that is so charged with everything that Luca is.
Whatever that is.
It is dangerous on many levels.  I know that.
I reach out unsure fingers and trace the top of his shoulders, moving over the contours.  They are so broad, yet so slender at once.  He’s perfectly built.  Strong, lithe and powerful.  I drop my head.  I know that I don’t want to resist him anymore.  For the first time in my life, I’m going to do something that my heart wants to do, not what my head tells me to do.
I grip him tighter with my fingers and pull him to me.  He folds in between my knees, pressing me to his chest.  I can hear his heart thumping rhythmically against mine as my fingers linger on his warm back.
He dips his head and presses his forehead to mine, staring into my eyes.  His are a smoldering and stormy black.
“I’m afraid to get close to you,” he tells me.  “I’m afraid for you.”
“I’m not,” I whisper.  “I’m not afraid of you.  Kiss me, Luca.”
Even I can hear the thick desire in my voice and Luca hears it too.
He groans and covers my mouth with his own, muffling the sound with my lips.  He is pressed so close that he seems to absorb me.  Every plane of his body is against every plane of mine.  I don’t know where he stops and where I start, but it doesn’t matter.  All that matters is him and me and this.
* * *

That scene continues on to become quite steamy.  Seriously, I had a fan on my desk for writing moments like those.  Haha.  I’m just kidding.  Or am I?

Of Blood and Bone is the first book in new trilogy, The Minaldi Legacy.  It is available here on Amazon and here on Barnes and Noble.com

Check it out and see why people are saying, “Holy moly!  I’ve never seen Courtney Cole like that!!”

I really hope that when you do, you’ll like what you see.

REVIEW: Personal Effects by E.M. Kokie

Title: Personal Effects
Author: E.M. Kokie - Website | Twitter | Facebook
Publisher: Candlewick Press
Publication Date: September 11, 2012
Format: eARC* from Netgalley; 352 pages
Rating: 3.5-4/5 stars

After his older brother dies in Iraq, Matt makes a discovery that rocks his beliefs about strength, bravery, and honor in this page-turning debut.

Ever since his brother, T.J., was killed in Iraq, Matt feels like he’s been sleepwalking through life — failing classes, getting into fights, and avoiding his dad’s lectures about following in his brother’s footsteps. T.J.’s gone, but Matt can’t shake the feeling that if only he could get his hands on his brother’s stuff from Iraq, he’d be able to make sense of his death. But as Matt searches for answers about T.J.’s death, he faces a shocking revelation about T.J.’s life that suggests he may not have known T.J. as well as he thought. What he learns challenges him to stand up to his father, honor his brother’s memory, and take charge of his own life. With compassion, humor, and a compelling narrative voice, E. M. Kokie explores grief, social mores, and self-discovery in a provocative first novel.

My thoughts, feelings, and reactions.
Personal Effects by E.M. Kokie was a good novel that centered around loss, struggle, fear, hope, discovery, acceptance, and bravery.

Matt Foster- the angry, grieving main character.

He was the type of guy who was all tough and macho on the outside, but totally conflicted and fragile on the inside. I loved that he wasn’t this perfect hero or this bad boy needing to be changed. Matt was just a young adult struggling with the death of his brother, with his dad’s relentless pressure, intimidation and pushing, with his growing feelings for his best friend, and all the anger and pain he’s been bottling up and dealing with on his own. Matt doesn’t really know what to do and he seemed a little lost. Seeing him fall a part and having to deal with all this by himself was painful to read. However, Matt really overcomes all these obstacles. He stands up, fights back, and makes his own decisions that are really unselfish and totally admirable. He becomes stronger, happier, and just a better person.

The writing, the pacing, and the great male POV.

While I enjoyed most of this book, I did have trouble with the slow beginning. E.M. Kokie has a great writing style, it’s there and it’s easy to get into, but it’s the pacing that becomes tiresome without a little push. I had trouble and nearly had to put this one down because things didn’t start to pick until I was 40% into the book. The beginning half had me drifting and sliding along with Matt and his torment. I felt stuck inside Matt’s thoughts until he finally did something. I’m not sure if this was intentional or not, but for me it just lagged. However, it was E.M. Kokie’s creation of Matt’s character that really kept me going. Matt’s narration was natural and his reactions weren’t fake or forced. Matt was all male and I saw and felt that through this whole novel. I was rolling my eyes when Matt did something stupid because it was just what I was expecting a boy would do in that situation. E.M. Kokie didn’t need to tell me that Personal Effects was in a male point of view because she showed me through Matt’s voice, his actions and feelings. Matt’s characterization really shined through in this book and that compensated for the slowness I felt initially.

The heartbreak, the touching and inspirational parts.

E.M. Kokie does a tremendous job of really hitting where it’ll affect you. She really brings you with Matt along this journey and whatever emotions he’s feeling, you’re definitely feeling it too. There’s specifically this one part that nearly drove me to tears, because the moment was so moving. It’s also the scene that made me admire Matt way more than I did. This book deals with so many personal and heavy issues, I feel as if anyone can relate or connect with this book easily. By the end of Personal Effects, you’ll want to stand up for something just the way Matt did.

The best part.

I personally call the best part of this book, what I dubbed a “twist within a twist.” While some things that do happen in Personal Effects were predictable, the way it was set up was not. I was expecting one thing, then I got something else and right when I was accepting that last revelation, I’m hit with another that caught me off guard. I, for one, loved that.

All in all, I thought Personal Effects was a great read. I didn’t know what to expect, but E.M. Kokie gave me something I didn’t know I was looking for.

The scorching tale of one girl, two brothers and a love triangle…that’s not.

Olivia Townsend is nothing special. She’s just a girl working her way through college so she can return home to help her father run his business. She’s determined not to be the second woman in his life to abandon him, even if it means putting her own life on hold. To Olivia, it’s clear what she must do. Plain and simple. Black and white.

But clear becomes complicated when she meets Cash and Nash Davenport. They’re brothers. Twins.
Cash is everything she’s always wanted in a guy. He’s a dangerous, sexy bad boy who wants her in his bed at any cost. He turns her insides to mush and, with just one kiss, makes her forget why he’s no good for her.

Nash is everything she’s ever needed in a guy. He’s successful, responsible and intensely passionate. But he’s taken. Very taken, by none other than Marissa, Liv’s rich, beautiful cousin. That doesn’t stop Olivia from melting every time he looks at her, though. With just one touch, he makes her forget why they can never be together.

Black and white turns to shades of gray when Olivia discovers the boys are hiding something, something that should make her run as far and as fast as she can. But it’s too late to run. Olivia’s already involved. And in love. With both of them.

Both brothers make her heart tremble. Both brothers set her body on fire.

She wants them both.

And they want her.

How will she ever choose between them?
Me: Olivia, that's easy! Let me have the other twin! ;P

One steamy excerpt, coming right up!
Damn, she’s beautiful!
Between this girl’s black hair, her bright probably-green eyes, her banging little body and the way she seems a tiny bit shy, I’m wishing we were alone in this room together.
Her smile doesn’t leave her lips as she runs her hands around my waist, untucking my shirt.  When it’s free, she starts to pull it up.
But then she pauses.  For a split second, I see her hesitate.  She’s trying not to show that she’s unsure of herself, of what she’s doing.
I stare down into those liquid eyes.  I don’t want her to stop.  I want to feel her hands on my skin.  So I taunt her, hoping to feed the feline that I’d be willing to bet is buried somewhere down deep.
“Oh, come on.  Is that all you got?” I whisper.
Her eyes bore into mine and I hold my breath, waiting to see which side will win.  In fascination, I watch as the balance of power shifts and the change is reflected in her eyes.  They get a little brighter, a little feistier.  I’ve never actually seen someone muster courage.  Determination.  Something in this girl refuses to give in, to back down.  She’s rising to the challenge.  And it’s hot as hell.
She keeps her eyes on mine as she starts to pull up my shirt.  She leans in closer and I get a whiff of her perfume.  It’s sweet and a little musky.  Sexy.  Just like her.
She has to plaster her body to mine and stretch up on her tiptoes to get my shirt over my head.  I can feel her breasts pushing against my chest.  I could make the task easier for her.  But I don’t.  I like the feel of her rubbing against me.  There’s no way I’m ruining that.
Once she has my shirt off, she backs up and looks me over. She’s shy about it.  That much is obvious.  It’s like she wants to look, but she’s a little embarrassed to, which actually makes it more of a turn on for some reason.  I’m sure every other eye in the room is watching me, watching us, but hers are the only ones I can feel.  They’re like tongues of fire, licking my skin.  They’re searing and tangible.  Or at least they feel that way to me.
I take a deep breath and her eyes drop to my stomach.  Then they flicker down a little further.  She stares longer than she should, but not nearly as long as I want her to.  I start to get hard.
Her eyes widen and her lips fall open just enough for her tongue to sneak out and wet them.  I have to grit my teeth to keep from pulling her to me and kissing that lush little mouth of hers.
Then light pours into the room. It’s just enough to break the spell.

Cover Reveal: Just For Now by Abbi Glines (Sea Breeze #4)

I absolutely love love love all of Abbi Glines's books, so I'm more than thrilled to be a part of this cover reveal. I'm not quite caught up with all the Sea Breeze books, but I'm super excited to continue the series I fell head over heels for <3

So I won't make you wait anymore (: Here it is!

Cover Design: Mooney Designs
Just For Now by Abbi Glines (Sea Breeze #4)
Expected Publication Date: October 23, 2012

Summary:
The day Preston Drake figured out that wealthy women paid well for a set of tight abs and a pretty face his life turned around.

The run down rat-infested trailer he had shared with his alcoholic mother and three younger siblings was now only a place he visited to pay the bills and stock the pantry with food.

He no longer worried about his family starving or living without electricity. The money he made entertaining rich older women more than covered his family’s needs and his own. He had it all figured out. Except…

There was this girl.

She was as innocent as he was tainted.

Amanda Hardy wished her knees didn’t get weak when Preston walked into a room. She hated the fact her heart raced when he flashed his smile in her direction. He had a different girl in his bed every night. He was the kind of boy a smart girl ran from. So, why was she coming up with ways to get close to him? Even when it was obvious he wanted to keep her at a distance.

Maybe her heart knew something the world didn’t. Maybe Preston Drake was more than just a pretty face.

OMG. OMFG. Isn't the cover gorgeous?! Sweet Jesus. Oh Preston! I absolutely adored him in Breathe, so I just know I'm going to love this book. He's sexy, guys. So sexy. And if you read the prologue, have some ice water ready because I have a feeling this one is going to be hot hot hot xinfinity.

Cover Reveal: Opal by Jennifer L. Armentrout (Lux #3)

What's hot, sexy, infuriating and so irresistible you can't have enough?
Why his name is Daemon and he's back with Katy in the third book in the Lux series :)

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

Summary Not Yet Available.

Why I'm Waiting?

1. Farewell, my love.
I'm half part dying for this book and half part dreading it. I want it so bad because I have to know what happens, but then I also don't ever want this series to end. The Goddess Test series has been one of my all time favorites and to see it end breaks my heart just a little more.

2. Kate.
I adore Kate so much and she has come so far. I can't wait to see what Aimee has in store for her. I have a feeling it's going to be so good.

3. Henry.
Ah, my favorite. I love Henry, always have and always will and I'm dying to know what he plans on doing in this last book. Has he finally moved on and given his heart fully to Kate? Does he still have lingering doubts? And how does he plan on... well that's all I should say. LOL. I just have so many questions. And honestly, I just miss Henry so damn much.

4. Goddess Interrupted WTFery Ending.

REVIEW: Silver by Talia Vance

Title: Silver (Bandia #1)
Author: Talia Vance - Website || Twitter
Publisher: Flux Books
Publication Date: September 8, 2012
Format: eARC* 374 pages
Rating: 4.5/5
Get it: Amazon | B&N | The Book Depository
"As I step into the room, a silver flash blurs my vision. Before I can take a breath, the world falls away."

Brianna has always felt invisible. People stare right past her, including the one boy she can't resist, Blake Williams. But everything changes at a house party where Brianna's charm bracelet slips off and time stands still. In that one frozen, silver moment, Blake not only sees her, he recognizes something deep inside her she's been hiding even from herself.

Discovering she is descended from Danu, the legendary Bandia of Celtic myth, Brianna finds herself questioning the truth of who she is. And when she accidentally binds her soul to Blake, their mutual attraction becomes undeniable.

But Blake has his own secret, one that could prove deadly for them both.

Bound together by forbidden magic, Brianna and Blake find themselves at the heart of an ancient feud that threatens to destroy their lives and their love.

My thoughts, feelings, and reactions.
Silver by Talia Vance is one magical book. It really surprised me in the best possible way. The mythology was so cool, the romance was sizzling and the entirety of the book was even better!

Brianna Paxton- the girl made of beauty and power.

She was smart and grounded, albeit all little boy crazy for Blake (Hey, I can’t blame her, the boy’s hot), but she also lacked confidence and self-esteem. I felt her focus was all about being unnoticed, not being the center of attention like her best friend Haley, and I hated that because she never really gave herself credit. As Brianna started to embrace her power, she became that strong, confident girl I hoped and wanted her to be. Her transformation and the growth of her character as a woman and as a bandia was truly incredible. She literally becomes this woman who stands up, fights back, and ultimately kicks butt! Brie’s self-discovery was the pivotal turning point that really solidified the book for me because no longer was that insecure, invisible girl I first met. In her place becomes this courageous, I-am-a-woman-hear-me-roar type of person that had me rooting for her until the end. She really turned herself around and I loved that.

Brianna and Blake’s romance- the definition of Facebook’s ‘complicated’ status.

Don’t get me wrong, Brie and Blake’s romance was hot hot hot. There was the perfect amount of tease, tension, swoon and heart racing moments that could last me a lifetime. The best part about them is that it’s so complicated, so forbidden, it’s a rush. Their relationship was doomed from the start and they both know things will end badly, but this doesn’t stop them from getting it on! It’s exhilarating for them to be near each other. Not only do they have this emotional connection, but they have this physical connection that literally makes their touch heat up, spark up, and light up. Their not so conventional boyfriend-girlfriendness is one big roller coaster that has plenty of ups just as much as downs. Their love is tragic, sad, and a bit heartbreaking but it’s all worth the ride, folks.

Writing, pacing, mythology and more!

Talia Vance’s writing is off the charts! Silver was easy to read, easy to understand, I was devouring the whole thing in no time. Talia really brings Brie’s voice and character to life. She was the reason I wanted to keep reading further and the mystery surrounding her power is what drove me to want to know more. While reading, I always felt like something bad, something good, something that I cannot seem to explain is going to happen. I was always on that edge, not nearly there, but so close that had me so engrossed in the book. The action and fighting and the use of magic was prominent in the book at almost every turn and dang it all, I loved that. My favorite part of this book was the mythology. Although I wished Talia explored more of it, she gave great background story. She thoroughly explained all about the bandia, the Seventh Daughters/Sons, Sons of Killian, Daughters of Danu, the Milesians, Gods and Goddesses, origins of power and so much more than I cannot even begin or end. The unexpected epic and crazy good plot twists and revelations are jammed packed in this book, all spiraling down to one awesome ending. It was amazing.

Overall, I loved Silver! It introduced me to a new type of mythology that I really liked. It had great characters that dominated the book, and a romance that gave me chills. I can’t wait for Gold!

*phew* Let's just say I was basically like this...

and certainly this..

But of course, it's not about the presents. It's the people I spent it with.
Of course my boyfriend, my family, and my friends who texted me (because they remembered)
Thank you.

And the people who I haven't met (in person), but made this day even better that it should have been..

First and foremost, the two people who made my birthday especially special:
These two make me smile, cry, laugh, everything in between. They are truly spectacular.
I'm so thankful and grateful and glad that I've gotten to know them.

Also, I want to thank these amazing people who are my
twitter friends, blogger friends, or possibly both (and who I love unconditionally)
that made me smile on my special day (:

And these people who greeted me 'Happy Birthday' when no one else remembered
(also some twitter/blogger friends that I've come to know):

You all deserve this, from me:
I adore you guys, so freaking much.

All in all, my birthday was a great one!

Happy Weekend!
Tell me what you got this week (:
