My Review:
Sebastian Hawkins doesn’t believe in love. He believes in hooking-up. Watching his mother go through relationship after relationship, Bastian has learned exactly what a girl needs to do in order to get her guy. He uses his knowledge and so-called expertise in his online hook-up service to earn some cash by helping out girls and giving them advice. Through this, Bastian becomes known as The Hook-up Doctor. He has never failed to hook up a girl with the guy she desires. Bastian knows what he’s doing. He can handle it. However Bastian finds himself falling love like he’s never fallen before and the girl he’s in love with is someone so unexpected, he’s starting to lose his mojo for picking up girls. It’s got him tongue-tied, nervous, lost and confused. Despite all the crazy emotions going through him, Bastian is determined to win the girl of his dreams. After all, he is The Hook-up Doctor and who knows better than Bastian?
What A Boy Wants by Nyrae Dawn was such an incredible book from start to finish. I absolutely loved everything about it from the storyline to the characters to the romance. I was wowed beyond belief and wrapped up in such an amazing book, there was nothing to stop me from reading this in one sitting.
Nyrae Dawn really impressed me with the original storyline and concept with what she created in What A Boy Wants. She was able to capture such vivid moments in the book, making them seem even more realistic. Her way with words were moving and it was obvious how much passion and emotion was put into the writing. It’s a refreshing story about love, relationships, learning to overcome fears and the courage to take a chance.
I absolutely adored Bastian. He is definitely an unforgettable character! From the very beginning, Bastian made a permanent impression on my heart. Nyrae Dawn developed Bastian’s character and personality beautifully. She captured the perfect male POV in Bastian. She did it naturally, effortlessly and with ease. Bastian had such a strong voice that I wasn’t just hearing him in my head, I felt like he was speaking to me. I felt as if Bastian was telling this personal story of his right next to me. I instantly connected to him the moment I started reading. I couldn’t help but be immediately taken with him. Bastian had a wonderful sense of humor, he was cocky, arrogant and conceited, but he was also super sweet, caring and had a heart of gold. Bastian was also extremely witty, smart and boy was he oozing with sex appeal. He’s such a handsome character. I loved his relationship with his mom and the dynamic friendship he had with Jaden, Pris and Aspen. When it came to the people Bastian loved, I really saw through all his cockiness. He was such a total sweetheart. I really saw how much he loved and cared for them and saw just how protective he was of his loved ones. Seeing Bastian fall in love was just heart warming. I loved reading about him feeling unsettled and the way he felt so confused. His raw emotions in this book really made him real for me.
The other characters in this book were also memorable. Nyrae Dawn does an excellent job of giving each character a distinct personality and voice. Individually, I loved Aspen, Jaden and Pris. When they came together, it was fun and their banter with each other was hilarious. More than once, I found myself laughing at their conversations. I loved getting to know each and every one of them and ultimately I still wanted more of them. I hope Nyrae creates more amazing characters like these.
The pacing of the book was just right. There’s not a dull moment with Bastian, making each page turnable one after the other. I couldn’t help but want to keep reading, but at the same time draw it out for as long as I could. I never wanted Bastian’s story to end, but I was eager to know what was going to happen next. Many parts of the book surprised me to no extent and the entire book is easily devourable.
Overall, What A Boy Wants was a very light and fun read. It’s extraordinarily addicting and it contains loads of laughs. There is no other book like this one. What A Boy Wants is a must-have book!
I can’t wait for whatever Nyrae Dawn comes up with next!
