Waiting on Wednesday #23

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine where you share an upcoming release that you're anticipating on reading.

Expected Publication: October 23, 2012

From Goodreads:

Two days after Mara walks into a police station in Miami at the close of The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, she is committed for psychiatric treatment for what her parents believe is a mental breakdown. But what seems like a hallucination to everyone else is a chilling reality for Mara. Someone from her past has discovered her strange, disturbing secret and that someone wants her to pay. But she's about to discover that the price is more than she can bear.

Dark and thrilling, suspenseful and passionate, The Evolution of Mara Dyer will have readers breathlessly turning pages to find out what will become of Mara Dyer next.

Why I'm waiting?

1. That ending that made me go WTF?!?
If you read The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, you know what I mean. I want to know what was going on there! Was it real? Was it fake? Hell, was it my imagination? Am I going insane? But I can't be because everyone I know that read that ending was like: asdfghjkl O_O
So naturally, I. Need. To. Know. What. Happened. Next. Plus, I just need to know more in general. I have so many questions and I need answers, people or I will go insane!

2. Mara Dyer.
Do you think we'll know her real name anywhere in this next book? I don't know, but I sure am curious. Plus I like Mara. She's got a snarky attitude that I would be more than happy to reconnect with. She's totally made of awesome and her freaky abilities and reason number 3 make me want to be her. Even though she kind of freaks me out a bit because I have no clue if she's sane or not or whatever the hell is going on, I don't really care because I lalala love her and I want back into this story no matter what.

3. Noah Shaw.
Do I really need to say more? Of course I do! I love him. I love him. I love him soooo much. I just want to be Mara so I can touch him, hug him, kiss him, run my hand down is niiiiice abs and um, possibly do more than that, but let's just leave that to my imagination. LOL. So I really adored Noah in The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer all down to his overconfident attitude, his accent and his sexxxiness (yes, he deserves three x's people!) Plus, there is so much we don't know about him and I have no clue what you guys want, but I sure want and need and must have more Noah. Noah. Noah. <3

4. And don't you want more of these moments:

“You want me as much as I want you. And all I want is you."
My tongue warred with my mind. "Today," I whispered.
Noah stood slowly, his body skimming mine as he rose.
"Today. Tonight. Tomorrow. Forever.”

“You're the girl who called me an asshole the first time we spoke. The girl who tried to pay for lunch even after you learned I have more money than God. You're the girl who risked her ass to save a dying dog, who makes my chest ache whether you're wearing green silk or ripped jeans. You're the girl that I--" Noah stopped, then took a step closer to me. "You are my girl.”

“I'll be gentle," Noah added. My breath caught in my throat as he looked at me from beneath those lashes, ruining me.
"You're evil."
"And you're mine.”

All those quotes are from The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and I mean COME ON PEOPLE. If you thought those quotes are amazingsauce, what about the quotes we'll have in The Evolution of Mara Dyer? They will be like 134567898765x more fantabulously, extraordinarily, amazingly spectacularlously AWESOME. I don't even know if that made any sense whatsoever, but you get it, yeah? xD

So what are you waiting on?

REVIEW: Intangible by J. Meyer

Title: Intangible (Intangible #1)
Author: J. Meyers
Published: January 29, 2012
Format: Kindle ebook* 349 pages
Twins Sera and Luke Raine have a well-kept secret—she heals with a touch of her hand, he sees the future. All their lives they’ve helped those in need on the sly. They’ve always thought of their abilities as being a gift.

Then Luke has a vision that Sera is killed. That gift they’ve always cherished begins to feel an awful lot like a curse. Because the thing about Luke’s ability? He’s always right. And he can’t do anything about it.

My Review:

Intangible by J. Meyers was such a different paranormal read for me, one I enjoyed completely. I was surprised with the originality of the storyline, the uniqueness of the characters and the overall creative development brought into the book.

J. Meyers really captured me with the flow and ease in which she wrote Intangible. Every word and page grabbed me and sucked me into the story. I was continuously impressed  and overjoyed at how much I came to love this book. The pacing was entirely perfect, not slow but certainly not overwhelmingly quick. The scenes were descriptive and at times illustratively vivid in my mind. The world in which the characters came from was well developed and detailed, something I always look for in a book.

The whole book is centered around a prophecy for the twins, Luke and Sera. This prophecy is unknown to the reader and to the twins. Throughout the book, Luke and Sera slowly uncover where their powers come from and what their role is as Gifteds and their place in the Realm. I loved discovering the truths along with Luke and Sera. I loved  the shocking plot twists and the tense-filled moments. I never knew what was coming up next and I always struggled to figure out the true intentions of some characters until the last minute. It was exciting, unpredictable and one pleasurable read.

Intangible was split into multiple POVs of different characters in the book. At first, this kept me a little disoriented and slightly confused, but soon enough I was able to distinguish which character I was reading about without so much difficulty. I loved both Luke and Sera together and individually. I loved their relationship and seeing how close they were as siblings but also as friends and as partners. They have this closeness and unique bond that no one can break. Their team work and overall dynamic continued to surprised me and left me awestruck. Luke is a Seer. He has visions that sometimes in pieces or complete. He’s very protective of Sera. He’s funny and witty and quite the charmer. He made me laugh every time he came up with comeback remark. Sera is a Healer. She touches people and lets this warmth and light flow through them. She’s kind, thoughtful and she has a tender heart coupled with an outrageous fire spirit and immense strength and toughness. She’s selfless, brave and loves her brother fiercely.

I love how Intangible was full of different paranormal characters and how each one was developed well without spoiling too much. There are vampires, elves, a mind reader, shadow creatures and other Gifteds that are still unknown to Luke and Sera. I really enjoyed being able to get into the head of Jonas, who is a vampire. He’s so mysterious and he gives off this dangerous and and full of trouble vibe. He was quite alluring and captivating and I immediately fell in love with him. He’s super strong physically and mentally, but he has this soft side where he values human life and saving innocent people. He’s sometimes distant and cold, but he’s totally kindhearted. Marc can tap into the minds of people around him. He’s handsome, troubled and a little broken. He feels this instant connection to Luke and Sera. I liked Marc because he was sweet and I felt his overall actions redeemed the darkness in him. Fey is beautiful and protective of both Luke and Sera. She’s Sera’s best friend and she kind of has this connection with Luke that I can see progressing further into the sequel. She’s pretty kick-butt and I love J. Meyers totally gave her this mysterious vibe, hiding her true identity until the right moment. And then Lilith is so terrifyingly beautiful. She’s creepy scary, ruthless, grotesque and she completely makes my skin crawl all at once. Lilith was the perfect villain to love and hate at the same time. What I loved was how J. Meyers connected all of these characters to Luke and Sera, weaving their own stories to theirs flawlessly.

The build up to the end was satisfying and a perfect way to wrap up the book. J. Meyers wrapped up everything nicely, tying loose ends but still keeping things open for the next books to come. I still have plenty of questions and I would love to learn more about the Realm along with Luke, Sera and Jonas’ background.

Overall, I found Intangible to be a gripping story from start to finish. It was an entirely compelling story full of never ending action!

My Rating:

4.5 out of 5 stars
